Audio Guidance
This document establishes the standardised protocol for Series 02-AUD Audio files and their accompanying Plaintext Summary documents. It defines the strict rules for the "-00" master session suffixes, segment identifiers, filename conventions, and internal structural sections required to ensure absolute consistency across all auditory media assets and their searchable text counterparts in the Scole Archive.

1. AUDIO FILE NAMING & FRAGMENTATION
Audio files must be stored in the uncompressed .wav format for maximum archival fidelity.
Format: Scole-02-AUD-[YYYY]-[MM]-[DD]-[###]-[SUFFIX].wav
Suffix Rules:
- Whole/Unsplit Sessions: Use [-00] (e.g., -405-00.wav). This designates a complete master session recording.
- Tape Segments: Use [-T#S#] (e.g., -T1S1.wav) for recordings originating from physical cassette tape sides.
Note: The segment identifier must not contain internal hyphens.
2. ARCHIVE-ID SYNTAX
The ARCHIVE-ID for Series 02-AUD strictly uses a two-digit suffix, dropping the date.
Format: Scole-02-AUD-[###]-[SUFFIX]
- Whole Sessions: Scole-02-AUD-[###]-00
- Tape Segments: Scole-02-AUD-[###]-01 (for T1S1), -02 (for T1S2), etc.
3. AUDIO SUMMARY DOCUMENTS (-Summary.txt)
Because raw .wav files cannot be text-searched, every audio file must be accompanied by a Plaintext Summary document in the same folder.
- FILENAME RULE (Title Case): Scole-02-AUD-[YYYY]-[MM]-[DD]-[###]-[00 or T#S#]-Summary.txt
- ARCHIVE-ID RULE (ALL CAPS): Scole-02-AUD-[###]-[00, 01, etc.]-SUMMARY
- METADATA DATE: The DATE field in the document header must reflect the historical date of the session (e.g., 05/10/1998), not the date the summary was generated.
4. SUMMARY DOCUMENT STRUCTURE
Audio Summaries must use flowing text (no hard line breaks mid-paragraph) and adhere to the following internal sections:
- 1. RECORDING OVERVIEW: A high-level contextual paragraph explaining the technical or historical significance of the specific audio segment.
- 2. KEY SUBJECTS: Bulleted list outlining major themes, communicators (e.g., DHI or NHI), specific auditory phenomena (e.g., "birds whistling", "Tannoy" qualities), or experimental adjustments.
- CROSS-REFERENCES: Links to corresponding Transcript (-TRX), Diary (-DIA), Video (-VID), or Literature (-LIT) files. Note: Session Data Log (-SES) references are currently excluded pending future archival maturity.
- REVISION HISTORY: Log of all file versions and standardisation updates.
5. GENERAL ARCHIVAL RULES
- NOMENCLATURE: Terms such as "trans-dimensional communication" and "germanium receptor" must remain lowercase unless starting a sentence. Acronyms (TDC, DHI, NHI) are capitalised.
- TYPOGRAPHY: All documents must use standard vertical double and single quotation marks. Curly "smart" quotes are strictly prohibited.
- SPELLING: British English spelling and grammar conventions must be used exclusively.
- CITATIONS: Do not use the "cite:" marker in the document text.
