DIARY TEXT:

Session 456.

Monday 5 October 1998.

During our session on Monday 5 October we started with Manu’s new format for the "Alice" video experiment. Nobody sat in front of the mirror and there were now no candles behind the curtain. The video camera had been moved forward, and was pointing directly into the mirror. The fifteen minutes initial meditation round the central table, which had just one large candle burning on it, was followed immediately afterwards by total darkness.

Manu explained that the TDC communicator at the previous sitting had been one of our "stellar friends". He confirmed that these friends were not able to hear us physically, but could link into our thoughts in order to receive our responses. He therefore asked us to ensure that we kept our thoughts spiritual! It was felt that the team were once again optimistic about a good result on the video film.

This was confirmed afterwards when we played it back, which meant that we had now had five, good, positive video results in five sessions! The fully animated image this time appeared to be of a large planet (which we were unable to recognise), together with two smaller ‘moons’ (one of these white in colour) to its left. The camera panned across the image.

There were brief communications from Emily and James. Shortly after the video camera clicked off (forty-five minutes into the session), we once again had a good loud TDC voice communication from the same "stellar friend" who had spoken to us at the previous sitting. This was even clearer than we had previously witnessed. Diana and Alan both lost their trance states, and were therefore able to fully listen to the TDC/germanium communications again.

The voice once more sounded as though it was coming - in echoey fashion - from an airport or a railway tannoy system, and again suggested a vague hint of a female communicator who spoke in robotic fashion. This time, the communications (from another dimension) started with a sort of "gurgly"/rushing water sound.

-----

ARCHIVAL NOTES:

This diary entry was recorded shortly after the conclusion of the session to preserve the most accurate immediate recollections of the phenomena and communications received. This session occurred during the final weeks of the experiment, when the focus had shifted almost exclusively to TDC and Alice video phenomena.

The description of the TDC voice as sounding like a "railway tannoy" is a consistent motif in Scole's electronic voice research. The communicator with the "tannoy voice" via the Edison TDC device was identified during a different session as Alayhurak of the "Star Brotherhood". This retrospective identification clarifies why the entity remains unnamed in the primary diary record for this session. Furthermore, the instruction to maintain "spiritual thoughts" underscores the importance of the "experimenter effect" in this work, where the mental harmony of the group acts as a functional component of the interdimensional link.

This session marks a significant technical evolution in "Project Alice" as the requirement for sitters to be positioned in front of the mirror was removed. This shift from a psychomanteum-style setup to a direct electronic-visual link suggests the spirit team had achieved a self-sustaining energy field within the optical circuit.

The appearance of planetary imagery (a planet with two moons) aligns with the overarching narrative of the late-1998 sessions, which focused on revealing interdimensional landscapes and "stellar" environments.

DIARY TEXT:

Session 405.

Friday 6 March 1998.

Immediately after Emily's chat, we all heard a series of squeaks (rather like a rubber duck or a dog's toy) coming from the amplifier attached to the TDC. Sandra initially thought that these noises might have come from a chair, but Emily cut in to say she shouldn't make such assumptions and should listen carefully. The squeaks were then repeated several times.

The new communicator previously mentioned by Edwin then started to address us through the amplifier of the TDC/germanium device. The words were clear and concise as he spoke, but he explained that what we were hearing was not his actual voice. He clarified this by telling us that he was from another dimension where words and language were not needed. He was therefore using a thought-translation system to speak to us in English. Where he came from (as he explained), he had no name; but he said that, for identification purposes, we might call him what sounded to us like "Shar-en-ess" [see Communicator "Sharness"].

Our new friend told us that, in reality, his own dimension was not too far distant from our own; although it was definitely a non-physical dimension - somewhat similar to those dimensions we encounter in our dreams whilst in a sleep state. "Shar-en-ess" [Sharness] had no physical form, although both male and female beings existed in his environment. Their life-form owned no lands and no possessions. There were no wars - as it was a dimension of  nothingness", and there was nothing to fight over. The distinction between male and female beings was simply to create balance.

Our new friend - "Sharn" for short - told us that he hoped to become a regular communicator at Scole and that he would try to answer some of our questions about both his (and other) interdimensional existences. In answer to Sandra's question, he stated that, if he or others from his dimension chose (or wished) to be born into a physical existence, it would not be possible for this to happen.

-----

ARCHIVAL NOTES:

This is the primary record of the first communication from Sharness, an NHI Communicator also referred to as both "Sharn" and "Shar-en-ess" in various contexts. Having carefully listened to and transcribed the relevant recordings, we have chosen "Sharness" as the archive name by which to identify this Communicator. During session 409, Sharness told the Scole Group that "he" was a "Darti" (he rolled the "r") and that, in his earlier days, he had been taught by "Darti Masters". Researchers might wish to distinguish between the "Stellar Friends" who appeared visually on video and sometimes physically in the experimental room and personalities like Sharness who said he was not contained in a physical body and communicated primarily through technical instrumentation rather than a human instrument (or "medium").

Session 405 marks a pivotal transition in the Scole Experiment's research trajectory, shifting from traditional survival evidence to interdimensional liaison. The introduction of Sharness represents the first sustained verbal interaction with a non-human, non-physical intelligence via mechanical means rather than biological mediumship. Sharness's description of his home as a "world of images" and "nothingness" provides a theoretical framework for the "New Work" which increasingly relied on the "Alice" optical feedback system and the trans dimensional communication (TDC) device to bridge different time-streams and vibrational densities.

The technical operation of the Scole-Edison TDC device during this session was highly specific. Unlike earlier (Type 3) "Energy Voice" manifestations, the sounds produced by Sharness were processed through an electronic circuit utilising a germanium crystal under screw-pressure with two coils. This configuration may have acted as a "cat's whisker" style receiver for interdimensional thought-pulses, which were then translated into the auditory range via the battery-powered amplifier (a 1990s-type tape player-recorder with the microphone removed to ensure it was not picking up ambient sounds in the room or radio signals). The screw was used for an equivalent of "tuning-in". The "squeaking" noises described by the sitters are possible indicators of the device achieving a frequency-lock prior to the initiation of the thought-translation stream.

DIARY TEXT:

Session 280.

Monday 21st February 1997.

When we finally met Rupert Sheldrake (as he arrived with Monty), he felt like an old friend - as our spirit team had been referring to him for such a long time. Manu welcomed him as the session started. The atmosphere took a while to build up as the spirit team took some time to get used to Rupert's energies. However, as the phenomena did get under way, we first of all began to hear movements around the room and on the central table. Immediately afterwards, the luminous tabs on the central table were regularly obscured by either energy structures or materialised spirit people. Next, we witnessed a superb display of aerobatics by a whole series of different spirit lights. The rapid movements of these lights covered every part of the room. A spirit light touched Dr Sheldrake a few times too.

Emily Bradshaw and Edwin spoke through the two mediums and continued to regularly chat to us all during the sitting. At an early stage, Emily confirmed that there were two spirit people present in "dense" (or teleported) form. Rupert was then touched by a spirit hand. He noticed at the time that the spirit visitor had a sleeve - which surprised him.

There followed a very interesting SVO (Sustained Visible Object), which built up on the central table. This seemed initially like our four-inch-long quartz compass crystal points but was much longer - about eight inches or so. It was sustained for some time and was illuminated within by a small spirit light at one end. This very fascinating object was then gently levitated and moved around the group for everybody to see at close range. Most of the time, this object was sitting in a vertical position and somewhat resembled the large crystals in the Superman movie. It had paper-like material hanging underneath it, which brushed over the sitters' hands, including those of Rupert Sheldrake. We noticed a rustling/crackling noise from this material when it came into contact with the table.

A "hooded" light was also demonstrated for all to see as it moved round the group, being visible to only one or two of the sitters at the same time.

Then the compass crystals and crystal clusters were frequently moved around the table. Often these were self-luminous as spirit lights sat within them and a spirit hand could be seen silhouetted against them. Two crystals were placed in the Pyrex bowl, where they were found after the session. The Pyrex bowl was lit up a few times by a spirit light.

Although Rupert was quiet to start with, he soon got into the swing of things; asking many questions of Emily and Edwin after the normal phenomena had finished. The session continued for almost two-and-a-half hours. Rupert was told that the spirit team had waited a long time for his visit. He was invited by the team to come again.

Afterwards, we showed him some of the quite amazing psychic photographic slides we had received earlier at Scole. Monty Keen was told that he could share with Rupert the information he knew about the germanium device, which Monty later did. Apparently, they were both extremely interested in what they had witnessed and consequently stayed up - talking about it - till 2 a.m. the next morning.

-----

ARCHIVAL NOTES:

This diary entry was recorded shortly after the conclusion of the session to preserve the most accurate immediate recollections of the phenomena and communications received. It was Sitting 21 for SPR Guest Participants and Sitting 27 in The Scole Report (Keen, Ellison, and Fontana, 1999). There is no audio recording available for this sitting. However, two pages of the transcript are in the archive (see Scole-03-TRX-1997-02-21-280-P10-11.txt). These two pages are taken from Scole Session 280, which was Sitting 21 for the SPR guest participants and Sitting 27 in The Scole Report. This extract consists of pages 10 and 11 of the session transcript published in The Scole Report (pp. 195-197), which was the title of a Proceedings of the Society for Psychical Research (SPR) [Vol. 58, Part 220, November 1999].

Session 280 is scientifically significant due to the participation of Dr Rupert Sheldrake, whose presence had been anticipated by the Communicator Team for several months. The physical phenomena recorded—specifically the 8-inch "Superman" SVO—demonstrates a high degree of materialisation stability. Sheldrake's observation of a "sleeve" on a spirit hand is a key archival detail, suggesting that the materialisations during this session included complex textures (clothing) rather than just anatomical forms.

The comparison of the SVO to crystals from the "Superman" film provides a clear cultural reference point for the visual appearance of the phenomena. The mention of the germanium device indicates that by early 1997, the technical transition toward electronic communication was already a core point of discussion between the Scole Group and SPR investigators.

DIARY TEXT:

Session 250.

Saturday 9th November 1996.

This Saturday, Monty Keen, Arthur Ellison, and David Fontana arrived at Scole for their scheduled experimental session. Arthur had brought some germanium with him and was thanked by Manu for bringing it. The new lockable wooden box we had had made was used at this session for the very first time. Before sitting, Monty chose a Polaroid 35 mm colour film at random from the two we had left. He took it out of the shop-sealed outer box (which also contained a cassette of chemicals for developing it) still in its lightproof plastic tub and quickly placed it in the new wooden box, which he then locked with a new padlock he had bought. Monty also brought a Kodachrome 35 mm slide film with him, leaving it in its shop-sealed cardboard box and plastic tub. This was put downstairs in the cellar for the spirit team to evaluate. The sealed wooden box containing the Polaroid film was placed on the central table during the session.

A "new" communicator (whom we assumed at the time to be a spirit scientist, though it was later revealed he was channeling the communications of the actual scientists in the Spirit Team) spoke to Arthur and asked for the germanium to be placed between two screws to create some specialist equipment for - he explained - a brand-new type of voice communication. It was explained that we would also need an amplifier, providing us with some equipment similar to a "cat’s whisker" radio. [Later, during Session 252, the Scole Group would agree to call him by a pseudonym, "Edwin"].

This session with the scientists was not short of phenomena. There were lights in the second dome and several attempts at showing spirit faces to our visitors. The figures who tried to show their faces also attempted to speak to us in their own energy voices. There were several shafts of light which occurred spontaneously, illuminating areas of floor around the feet of sitters, as well as a small light source of greenish-yellow, which appeared at the top of the central dome before beaming down on to the bottom of the dome. There were a number of "hooded" spirit lights which everybody witnessed and, once again, some two-foot-tall angelic beings that built up in the centre of the room then floated around the group and allowed Sandra and me - together with the scientists - to feel the material of their robes over our hands.

The Pyrex bowl was moved. At first it was turned upside down and was then illuminated by a bright spirit light from within. Everybody saw a number of quite different animated spirit hands in the light from the upturned bowl. It was not just a case of seeing the hands, because everyone also felt spirit hands touching them. Each time one of the visiting SPR scientists requested it, a spirit hand touched him again - immediately and unerringly in the darkness! The Pyrex bowl was finally turned the right way up once more, with the amazing crystal experiment of two days previously being repeated. Just as we thought it might do, this evidential experiment impressed all three of the scientists greatly and provided a lasting memory in each and every one of them of their sessions with the Scole Group.

For extra security, Arthur Ellison thrust his chin almost into the bowl as all three scientists viewed the illuminated large crystal point in the bowl and then picked it up one by one. The crystal remained clearly visible throughout the experiment. Then, moments later, the scientists were invited to pick the crystal up again. One by one, they tried - and failed - as their hands went straight through the visible crystal. Shortly afterwards, the spirit team asked the scientists once again to pick up the crystal, which we could all quite clearly still see. This time, it was once again solid! Nobody could possibly explain such an impressive experiment away, and all felt it to be 100% genuine.

The Kodachrome film was removed by the spirit team from its cardboard box and handed briefly to Sandra (still in its lightproof plastic pot), before being taken back by a spirit person and handed to David Fontana. As he had previously requested, Monty Keen was given a "book test" by Emily B. She spoke of Myers’ Human Personality book - Volume 1 - and mentioned page 250 (or 252), she was not quite sure. Nevertheless, she said that some French wording would be found on the relevant page, and this information later proved to be 100% correct, just as we expected it would be! Mrs B [Emily] had never let us down before!

David Fontana was asked to take the locked wooden box containing the 35 mm Polaroid film away with him (still locked) and retain the key. He was requested to bring the box back to Scole again for his (and Ingrid Slack's) sitting with us on the following Monday [Session 251], as the spirit team hoped to produce something for him on this film.

The new communicator [Edwin] mentioned Edinburgh University (which he was apparently not supposed to do), and then spoke to Professor Arthur Ellison in "electric speak". This involved technical electrical jargon about "envelopes" and "grids" that Arthur understood well, although the rest of us there hadn’t a clue what it was all about. This electric speak was a follow-on to his previous comments regarding a new piece of germanium-based equipment, that he wanted Arthur to build so that the spirit team could perfect a new form of direct communication. He spoke of the "piezo effect" on a germanium crystal.

At the end of the session, it was discovered that the new, locked wooden film box was sitting in front of me on the table, with the new type of film (35 mm Kodachrome) - now back in its cardboard carton and still in its plastic lightproof tub - sitting on top of it. David Fontana took the locked box (still containing the film originally locked into it) away with him as the spirit team had requested.

DIARY TEXT:

Session 226.

Saturday 10th August 1996.

For this researcher session, we sat with Monty Keen, and professors David Fontana and Arthur Ellison. David Fontana held the film in its plastic pot throughout the session but, disappointingly, when it was being developed afterwards, the pack of chemicals (supplied with each film) in the Polaroid developing machine was faulty, and we had to open the machine up during the developing process. This inevitably caused light to get in, thereby ruining the as-yet-undeveloped film. Regrettably therefore, we had no positive photographic results at this sitting.

My diary further records that this session was generally a disappointing one. Before we began, the three scientists conducted their customary thorough search of the cellar. For the first time, Arthur Ellison wanted to pull up the carpet.  Whilst - in principle - we had no objection to this, they finally decided against pulling up the carpet because it had been professionally fitted on to wooden "Smooth Edge" (the thin wooden strips around the edge of the room with nails/tacks protruding upwards to keep a carpet in position), and we pointed out that it would have to be re-fitted at their expense if they wanted to do that. In any case, the floor under the carpet was solid concrete and it would not have been vaguely possible for us to have hidden anything beneath the carpet. It did seem, however, that the three SPR scientists appeared to be over-suspicious of the Scole phenomena generally for the very first time.

Just as the session started, after we were all greeted by Emily Bradshaw and Albert, Professor Ellison started asking questions on his pet subject of lucid dreaming - and pushing the spirit team to allow the investigators to introduce infrared viewers into their sessions with us in the Scole cellar. This was always a recurring theme with the scientists. Our spirit team had in the past consistently failed to consent to these suggestions. They felt that to do so would interfere with their own fixed agenda of experiments; thereby preventing them from producing the positive results they wished to demonstrate for the three SPR researchers. Unfortunately, Sandra and I inwardly groaned at this point as we felt that this early dialogue between the scientists and the team at this session had most certainly adversely affected the harmony we usually enjoyed at our sittings. It is a fact in this type of research that a lack of harmony between sitters is detrimental to the results that a spirit team can produce.

The situation was not helped when Arthur, without referring the matter to us, held out a card in front of him in the dark with a number on it; suggesting that the spirit team read it in the dark and tell him what the number was. Emily patiently tried to explain that our spirit communicators no longer had physical eyes, which meant they could not read as such. They got their information from being told by another spirit person. After this additional move by Arthur, Sandra and I could almost physically feel the atmosphere worsen as the harmony between us suffered even further. We were, of course, not aware at that time of the allegations that had been made by SPR member, "WM", following the last public seminar. Interestingly, despite his ringing Monty Keen, the delegate WM had not had the decency to put his allegations to us directly!

The session itself, however, had actually started off fairly well with the energy building up quickly. Sandra was soon touched a couple of times by a solid spirit hand and also had her trouser leg pulled three times by the same hand. There was much joking about leg-pulling! Spirit lights followed, but Monty and Arthur had a myriad of questions to ask the spirit team - all requiring detailed answers and explanations, which caused the spirit scientist Albert to announce that the team would have to abandon the planned phenomena so that all of the energies could be concentrated on their questions.

Monty went on to suggest that the spirit team could provide "book tests" for them (this entailed the spirit team successfully telling them what was on a particular page of a particular book - and giving its location wherever that book happened to be). Regrettably, the scientists would not listen when Mrs Bradshaw declared that "book tests" were "old hat" and that our own spirit team here at Scole was planning evidence that was much more spectacular. Eventually, (after much insistence on their part), Monty was given a "book test" which turned out to be evidential!

Albert tried to explain how the energy they used was akin to a "carrier wave", with phenomena being carried on it. At this point Professor Arthur Ellison really didn't want to know and actually made a sarcastic comment. Albert spoke of the "Albemarle Club", where a number of SPR colleagues used to meet many years ago. At this point I was asked by Albert to turn off the cassette recorder which I was using to record the sitting, whilst he told us of "goings on in St James Square". Monty was given a number of other "clues" as to the identities of those ex-SPR members who were now gathered in the spirit world, desperately trying to bring good evidence of their survival for Monty, Arthur, and David.

Despite being pressed by the scientists, Albert didn't want to say much about himself, however. Apart from Monty's "clues", this sitting certainly did not come up to normal expectations. At the end, the table rotated by about thirty degrees one way and then back again, till it was once again exactly aligned with the North, South, East, and West points.

It was several months before we discovered that their suspicious attitude at this session had been triggered just by the previously mentioned telephone call from the single SPR member (WM) who had sat with us during our last public seminar on Sunday 28 July, and immediately called Monty afterwards with a spurious report of his experiences, claiming that the Scole Group were fraudulent, without providing the least bit of evidence to justify his claims. It was really a shame that Monty, Arthur, and David should have taken such a negative view on board, which had effectively caused this scientist sitting to be wasted when so much more could have been achieved.

ARCHIVAL NOTES:

This diary entry was recorded shortly after the conclusion of the session to preserve the most accurate immediate recollections of the phenomena and communications received. Three members of the SPR participated. This was Sitting 11 for SPR scientists and Sitting 14 in The Scole Report.

The friction recorded in this entry powerfully highlights the methodological clash between traditional, orthodox psychical research protocols (which prioritise physical environment control, such as pulling up carpets and introducing infrared cameras) and the strict operational parameters demanded by the Scole Spirit Team. The "WM" incident illustrates the external pressures and scepticism the Scole Group faced, which the group thought could actively disrupt the delicate interpersonal harmony required for physical phenomena to manifest. Furthermore, the "book test" requested by Montague Keen is a classic, traditional mediumistic proof-of-survival technique, which contrasts sharply with the pioneering physical manifestations (like the films, illuminations, and other phenomena) that the Scole Spirit Team were attempting to demonstrate.

During the previous sitting (R11, p. 7) [Session 226], some time after the ping-pong ball (in DF's words noted immediately afterwards) had been "thrown violently out of the Pyrex bowl" in front of MK and AE, and the bowl had been heard to scrape and slide across the table until it came to rest a few centimetres in front of DF, both his hands were held. In a separate record of this event, DF describes how a ball of light, the size of a large glass marble, appeared on the table and apparently rolled towards him, remaining a few centimetres away on the table:-

"It illuminated my hands, palms uppermost, so brightly that I saw all ten fingers clearly ... My right hand, palm uppermost, was touched. The fingers [of a dark shape he had earlier seen on top of the ball of light] then slid up towards my palm, so that with my thumb and finger I could hold them gently from above. The hand was small and delicate, like a woman's, and felt cool. On other occasions a spirit hand shook our hands on request, again finding us with unerring accuracy in the dark."

DIARY TEXT:

Session 218.

Saturday 13th July 1996.

This was another sitting with the scientists. This time, David Fontana was not able to be present so our visitors were just Monty Keen, Professor Arthur Ellison, and Professor Archie Roy. Archie Roy had travelled down from Scotland for this specific sitting. My diary reminds me that it was, nevertheless, quite an excellent session, full of good results, and that it went on for two hours twenty-five minutes.

Monty brought with him a number of Polaroid 35 mm Polachrome colour films, still in their unopened parcel from the supplier. Professor Roy chose to open the parcel under test conditions. He then selected one of these films at random, took out the light-proof plastic pot containing the film and stuck a luminous tab on it. This he kept in his personal possession until he placed it on the central table in the cellar at the North point, as we had been instructed. Arthur Ellison then put luminous tabs on three empty film pots and placed those at the South, East, and West points of the table. The central bowl on the table was empty and the four crystals were aligned with the cardinal points of the compass. The Scole Group fixed their luminous armbands with Velcro fastening.

Manu opened, welcoming Archie Roy to his first Scole session. The sitting got off to a quiet start whilst the energy built up. Spirit communications, through the two mediums’ trance state, came mainly from Mrs Bradshaw and the new spirit scientist, who told us (in response to a question from Monty), that - in fact - his true identity may never be known to us, as he was not permitted to tell us what it was. He explained that he was considered to be controversial in his methods, but that he usually got the desired results through using these methods. We could if we wished - he told us - refer to him as "Albert" - or "Al" - for convenience sake.

This communicator proved to be extremely knowledgeable; even carrying out a lengthy technical conversation with Archie Roy on the subject of astronomy and speaking of a particular experiment (well known to Archie but not to us) that was underway at that time, and which was still considered to be very confidential. We all just sat and listened to the animated two-way conversation, totally ignorant of everything that was being spoken about.

Joseph popped in a little later just to say, "Hello", but - unusually for him - he had little to say on this occasion. Gradually, the spirit lights built up in frequency and intensity. These performed excellent circles and ellipses of light, indulging in all sorts of aerobatics. One or more spirit lights touched all the conscious sitters and visitors at various times during the session. As was now the norm, the spirit light performed its ‘party piece’ when it went into my body. Archie Roy was asked if he would like to experience that too and, upon his assenting, the light went into him as well.

The light demonstrated its ability to pass through the table, plus table and bowl, in both the silent mode, and with a loud rap when hitting the table or bowl as it passed through them. I was touched several times by what felt like energy structures - on my right arm, left arm, plus right hand and knuckles. Mrs Bradshaw told me that a spirit person was standing very close to me, and this was confirmed when my chair was bumped and moved slightly a few times. Significantly, we did not experience any energy voices at this session. We speculated about that later and wondered if their production had been prevented because the glass dome had been removed from the table. Perhaps it may also have been due to the fact that the available energies were required for other phenomena on this occasion.

All of the other sitters (including me), were also touched several times by lights and by energy structures. Sandra was touched by a materialised spirit person and the back of her chair was whacked a few times to prove that teleported spirit entities were still present. At different times in the sitting, it was noticed that the position of the film pots moved around, and sounds were heard coming from the bowl or from the table. As requested by the spirit team at the previous session - with the exception of Monty’s colour film - we did not touch anything for just over an hour after we closed the session.

When the film was developed jointly by ourselves and by the scientists, we discovered that it contained a Latin phrase, written along the whole length of the film. Subsequently we learned that this was a quotation from Homer. When the full hour had elapsed, we examined the apports in detail. The bowl contained a small piece of paper, in which were wrapped three small mollusc shells, looking rather like the real-life version of tiny ammonites (not fossilised). There was also a small amount of what looked like a brownish/grey ash. The edges of the paper were uneven (almost like an old-fashioned paper’s deckle edge). Several parts of the paper, including the edges, were singed or burnt. In addition, the paper had some pencilled writing on it - which included symbols, a possible signature, and a date: 1881.

The three plastic 35 mm (previously empty) film container pots had fascinating apports in them. The container situated at the south point of the table was about one third full of a clear water-like liquid (this was yet another first-time physical phenomenon we had experienced - the apportation of a liquid). To the east, there was a greyish ash-like substance in the container, whilst the film pot at the west point was seen to contain a greenish-blue crystalline substance. We had been asked by the spirit team to ensure that these apported objects and substances did not leave the Scole premises so, regrettably, we could not furnish the scientists with samples.

DIARY TEXT:

Session 138.

Monday 21st August 1995.

This session took place on Sandra’s birthday; we were back to just the usual six group members at our sitting. After Manu had said a few words, Sandra received an apport for her birthday. This was in the form of a tiny crystal ball of rose quartz (about the size of a marble) and she was told that this would help her if she held it whilst meditating.

The spirit lights we witnessed at this sitting were stunning to see as they flew around the room; they created the effect of Catherine wheels and ellipses in mid-air by their movement. It was almost like attending a pyrotechnic display! The lights also fell through the central table and - in a new development - they also passed several times through Sandra’s body and hand! The rest of us were touched by the lights too, as well as by the teleported spirit people who were present at our session. At one stage it seemed as though Sandra was going to be given a haircut. She was patted several times on the head as if her hair was being attended to, and we could all clearly hear the sound of a pair of scissors opening and shutting in the air close to her, and the sound of a comb being drawn along a chair back. It is interesting to note, however, that there were no real scissors and no real comb in the room at all, either before or after the sitting!

Patrick and Mrs Bradshaw were "in situ" through their respective mediums for most of the session. We were given the go-ahead for the PRISM and SPR members - Monty Keen, Professor Arthur Ellison, and Ralph Noyes - to join us for an experimental session on Monday 2 October 1995. William and Joseph - the two scientific members of our spirit team - also spoke to us on this occasion, with a special request for us to build a couple of new pieces of apparatus for use in future experiments, so that they could demonstrate some different aspects of the spirit lights. The first of these was to be a glass or Perspex tube, about six to eight inches in diameter and about twelve to fourteen inches long. We were asked to mount this lengthways on a wooden plinth. The actual experiment which the team had in mind regarding this apparatus just involved a spirit light entering the tube at one end, and then visibly changing in the middle of the tube (due to a different atmosphere) before exiting the tube at the other end.

Secondly, we were asked to provide an oblong box of glass or clear plastic (some eighteen inches long) with square ends between six and ten inches. The box, when made, should be closed along three sides but open along the fourth side. The open side was to be placed face down on a wooden base or on the table. As requested, we did provide both these pieces of equipment (expertly made by Ken) at a later date, with the glass box being affectionally known as our "fish tank".

Finally, at this session, the central table moved bodily away from its original position by a few feet and we were addressed briefly by a number of energy voice communicators. This time, they were "John", "Edward", and another person who spoke very well at his first attempt, introducing himself as "Lawrence". This last spirit visitor was by far the most proficient of all the energy voice speakers so far to converse with us in this way and he was eventually to become the one main regular demonstrator of the energy voice phenomena. We discovered later that "Lawrence" was actually his surname and that his Christian name was "Reg". In his lifetime he had been an engineer. Just before the session ended, Mrs Bradshaw asked us to provide a Ping-Pong ball at our next sitting, when we were again expecting guests.
